Stage 2 – language course in Seefeld

The next step takes you to the Wetterstein Academy in Seefeld, Austria. In about three months, you and thirty other selected dentists will learn Dutch at a luxurious four star hotel. You’ll reach B1 level proficiency in the language, take a civic integration course, and deal with the majority of the mandatory paperwork for which the Netherlands has gained something of a reputation. After your training, you’re able to get around in Dutch and will have mastered the basics of Dutch dental jargon.

Language course: Dutch, B1

Your language studies will need to be quite advanced before you can pronounce and spell the word ‘wortelkanaalbehandeling’ (root canal treatment). You’ll be taught by Dutch instructors who will help you master the language to B1 proficiency level. Students will be divided into small groups according to their level, each with training and supervision appropriate to their needs.

Civic integration course

How does the tax system work in the Netherlands? Where can you find an estate agent? What formalities need to be completed at the local authority offices? You’ll learn all this and more during the civic integration course, indeed everything you need to know about the inner workings of Dutch society. This, of course, goes beyond bureaucratic matters. National customs, standards and values as well as some peculiarities will be discussed extensively.

Speed dating with dental practices

During your period of training at Seefeld, there will be an opportunity to meet with the directors of various dental practices. You’ll record a personal video message to introduce yourself and you might be asked to take part in a Skype meeting. Based on this meeting, a director will decide whether or not to come to Seefeld and meet you in person. Alternatively, you may not come into contact with any practices until you have actually arrived in the Netherlands. EDE offers guidance for every meeting.

Dentists’ course

In Seefeld, you’ll learn the Dutch names and terms for your instruments and procedures. Through roleplaying with teachers, you’ll get to practice these terms.

Radiation safety course

Before leaving for the Netherlands, you’ll take a course in radiation safety, in order to obtain the Dutch 5 A/M Radiation Certificate.

Social activities

Apart from all that studying, you’ll have a lot of fun with your fellow students. You can take trips to Innsbruck, Munich or Verona, and you’ll have drinks in one of the many quaint bars in Seefeld. There’s also plenty of opportunity to exercise. There’s a sizable pool, a gym and you’re within walking distance of skiing slopes. Other options are walks and hikes, running, mountain climbing and many more activities.
